It’s not every day that you have the opportunity to own a home on the National Registry of Historic Places as well as a National Historic Landmark. The Upton Sinclair House, home to the famous American novelist Upton Sinclair, is now on the market for $1,500,000.
This lovely 1923 Spanish Colonial Revival Home was the home of Upton Sinclair from 1942 to 1966. The house was designed by California architect Frederick H. Wallis and is located in the suburban Los Angeles community of Monrovia, in the San Gabriel Valley. This home was also declared a Monrovia Historic Landmark and has a Mills Act Contract with the City of Monrovia to help reduce property taxes in favor of continuing historically correct maintenance.
Sinclair published over 90 books in his lifetime, but is best known for his 1906 novel The Jungle. It exposed unsanitary conditions of the United States meat packing industry, which resulted in the 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act.
