Executor

An executor is a person who is named by a will's maker. The executor is specifically named in the last testament and must follow out the will's directions. In the event that a deceased person leaves no will behind, the probate court will appoint an executor. For example, when your father dies, and he leaves a will, it may name you as the executor. As the executor of the estate, you have several responsibilities and must ensure that the will is followed in its entirety. There may be distant relations that are named in the will, and these people have to be contacted. One of your major functions as the will's executor is to ensure that any property is disbursed as ordered. Any debts that are outstanding also have to be paid, and an executor must ensure that any creditor's claims are approved, satisfied or disproved.
