If you are single or a couple just starting out in your life together, you may choose to purchase a cottage as your first home. A cottage is a one-story home that is cozy and compact. A cottage may be found in rural areas and in city neighborhoods. In the 1960s, the A-Frame was considered a stylish cottage. Cottages are also used as temporary homes for city dwellers who want an escape for the weekend or for use as a summer home. Many cottages are built in wooded areas and land adjoining a lake. The owners of a cottage may rent it out to tenants when the owners are not occupying the building. Often, you will find many structures around a small privately owned lake or on the banks of a river. Most of the time, this kind of cottage is used for recreational purposes such as boating, hiking and fishing.
